As has become the tradition – my Heart made PIZZA for Superbowl Sunday. My Heart’s pizzas deserve All Caps because they rock. Now, he does make some of the same pizzas each year but then he always surprises us. See a previous year’s Superbowl Pizzas to see what I mean.
Now, pizza isn’t ALL we eat for Superbowl Sunday but we have learned to cut back on how much we make so we don’t over stuff ourselves. Some years there is a ridiculous amount of food: Superbowl Chow. This year we did make the Mexican Layered dip I made for the Superbowl Feast and also some carrots and cucumbers and dip but the focus was on my Heart’s pizzas. The base is, again this year, Trader Joe’s pizza crust. It is inexpensive and really wonderful and my Heart makes the crust even better by rolling cheese into the edge for a “stuffed crust”. There is a plan to work on a gluten-free pizza crust for next year – we will see if that happens.
First up – Seafood Pizza: Base cheese is a combination of mozzarella and sharp cheddar topped with scoops of store-made crab dip.
Pizzas are baked at 425-degrees for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. He also used a pizza stone that is kept hot in the oven. He throws on a bit of corn meal to keep the pizza from sticking.
And because this pizza wasn’t yummy enough… slices of smoked salmon added before slicing – so the salmon is still cool.
A Huge Hit !
Always a favorite – Cheese base is sharp cheddar topped with Trader Joe’s Organic sliced deli roast beef and crumbled Stilton.
A simple pizza but packed with flavor – the roast beef can stand up to the salty, delicious Stilton
Experimental pizza for this year? Chinese pizza topped with fried rice and Trader Joe’s Kung Pao Chicken which includes peanuts and hot chili peppers.
The kids weren’t too sure about this one but one taste won them over. The crispy crust holds up against the heavy topping and the spicy flavors rocked.
And the final and favorite – Bacon, brie, caramelized onion, and apples. Actually the onions were for the beef pizza but we forgot and it turned out to be a great addition to this pizza.
There was a plan for a dessert pizza but we were stuffed.
And THIS is what happens when my son gets a hold of my camera – funny pics!
