Perfect – craving for stew / stew meat on sale!
Combined gluten-free flour with thyme and freshly ground black pepper – coated the stew meat in seasoned flour then browned the beef in a drizzle of olive oil. Flouring and browning the beef before putting it into the slow cooker helps with the texture of the beef and also acts as a thickener.
Two packages of frozen stew vegetables – one on the bottom then the meat followed by the 2nd package on top
I like the flavoring in this packet but it is high in sodium so I only use 1/2 of the packet (or less) – combined with one can of low sodium beef broth, 1/2c Merlot, chopped garlic, 1Tbsp Worcestershire, 1c water, thyme, marjoram. Set on low for 10 hours.
