Omurice

Omurice

Omurice is a fairly common dish in Japanese homes and restaurants. Basically it is fried rice wrapped in an omelet (omelet + rice = Omu-rice). We had leftovers that needed using and this popped into my head.

Omurice  Leftover Asian short-grained rice (heated in the microwave), stir-fried with cooked pork sausage (I keep a bag in the freezer), chopped carrots and onions.

Mixed with 2 Tbsp soy sauce (to taste) and 1 Tbsp ketchup.

Beaten egg with a dash of powdered ginger and freshly ground black pepper – Cook as you would an omelet, lifting up the sides to move the uncooked egg to the bottom. Flipped to finish cooking.

Omelet wrapped around a pile of the rice mixture topped with ketchup and a squirt of Sriracha sauce.  Not at all complicated – uses up leftovers (the Japanese put all sorts of things in the fried rice) – hearty and substantial for any meal and YUM !
