Boordy Vineyards Fall Sampling

As a Case Club member, we were invited to Boordy Vineyard’s Fall Sampling event. This celebrates the end of the season and was “honoring Boordy’s 65th anniversary with a vertical tasting of several past vintages of our award winning Veritas Port drawn from our wine library. A special winery tour will delve into our Landmark Project, premium wine initiative begun five years ago, that was put into full operation in this year’s great 2010 vintage.” It was a perfect fall day!

The event was held in the barn – there were lots of people but it did not seem crowded

We started off with a cheese sampling and, of course, some lovely wine tasting. Received 65th Anniversary glasses.

After the cheese appetizer came the main course samplings: The Cream of Potato Leek soup with Basil garlic Oil was definitely my favorite. The basil garlic oil gave more of a “scent” to the soup than a Taste. It was absolutely delicious and I had seconds! The Apple Braised Pork Loin w/ Jasmine rice & Roasted Butternut Squash & Bacon was ok… I like my Heart’s pork loin more. It is hard to keep pork moist & tender when serving a lot of people. The butternut squash was nice but I don’t think I found a piece of bacon. The Chicken Pot Pie with Drunken Riesling Vegetables & Sage Cream Sauce was totally bland. It was creamy and everything was cooked quite well but all I tasted was cream, it really could have used some seasoning… definitely could not taste the Riesling or the sage. The salad was Field Greens, Pears, and Candied Peans with a Cranberry Vinaigrette and was delicious. They also had candied pecans & fresh apple slices with a baked brie that was wonderful.

The finale were miscellaneous desserts. My heart brought me back a little cream puffy thing and this adorable mousie… look, they even did a tail. He was delicious with a crisp chocolate coating and a rich dark chocolate truffle-type filling on top of a chocolate cookie. We bought a case of wine including some new wines we would not have bought except for the tasting – the Landmark Reserve Chardonnay 2009 which is so different from their standard Chardonnay. We’re not usually Chardonnay drinkers but this was lovely and we are hoping to put the bottles away to age a bit, which will only make them better. – The Veritas Vintage Port 2006. We both love port and have not bought Boordy’s before but after the comparison tasting with their library ports, these are definitely bottles to hid away (so we don’t drink them) to allow to age and mellow to their full potential. We also bought several bottles of the Merlot, our favorite, and a couple bottles of the Spiced Wassail in anticipation of the holidays! It was a lovely, delicious afternoon well spent!
